Mean Girls (and Boys):
Here’s What a Parent Can Do
Nothing is
more heartbreaking than hearing that your child
has been bullied, called names, or hurt by the
actions of other children. You have a wonderful
child and you’re wondering “Why would someone do
this to my child?”
It pains you to think that this goes on at
school or anywhere else. You want your child to
feel safe and free from emotional harm wherever
he or she goes.
Yet, estimates are that half of all school
children will feel stress and anxiety at school
from bullying. And practically no child escapes
experiencing the emotional pain of being laughed
at, feeling left out, being called names or
other forms of relational aggression.
Maybe your child told an adult at school and
nothing happened. Or maybe your child was too
afraid to say anything. In either case, your
child will benefit from learning strategies that
s/he can use on the front-line when the
relational aggression or bullying occurs.
You must be
your child’s teacher. You can help your child to
identify relational aggression and bullying,
determine what his/her role is in stopping it
and role-play different scenarios until their
responses come naturally.
Attend the
“Mean Girls (and Boys): Here’s What a Parent Can
Do” teleclass and you’ll learn 14 options
your child can choose from to use when
